Currently, CNG is approved by the US DOT to be transported
at 250 BAR. A BAR is the same as an ATM, meaning 250 BAR isneeded to fracture solid rock under 7,000'ft of overburden is ~15,000 psi.
700 BAR tanks are currently being tested in various countries for CNG fuel tanks
in vehicles (as opposed to payload tanks).
This could make LNG obsolete! Remember, by taking methane to
-260'F, at 1 BAR it becomes 600x concentrated. BUT-- LNG is super
expensive to create, require exotic/expensive containers, they leak
BY DESIGN, etc.
So if the industry can ship methane by using "ordinary" CNG at 10,000 psi,
it will be MORE concentrated as LNG, with presumably 1/2 to 1/10th the capital
costs.
