Martha Robertson, chair of the Tompkins County Legislature and member of Tompkins County Council of Governments (TCCOG) introduced and moderated the forum, July 25, 2011, Women's Community Bldg., Ithaca, NY. Karen Edelstein is a Geographic Information System (GIS) Consultant and Stewardship Coordinator for the Finger Lakes Land Trust. Tony Ingraffea is the Dwight C. Baum Professor of Engineering and Weiss Presidential Teaching Fellow at Cornell. Since 1974, he has conducted R&D in various aspects of oil and gas drilling, cementing, fracing, and pipeline science, engineering snd technology. Lou Allstadt spent 31 years working in the oil and gas industry. He was Executive Vice President of Mobile Oil Corporation responsible for exploration and production (drilling for oil and gas) in the US, Canada and Latin America. Previously, he headed Mobil's worldwide supply, trading and transportation operations. He is a member of the US Oil and Gas Association. Helen Slottje is a public interest attorney with the nonprofit law firm Community Environmental Defense Council, Inc. She works with municipalities and community groups trying to protect themselves from the negative impacts of fracking and volume of wells slated for NY towns that lie above the Marcellus shale, and also advises students at Cornell's Water and Land Clinic. Roger Downs is a Conservation Progam Manager for the Sierra Club Atlantic Chapterand serves as their NY State lobbyist. Trained as a wetlands ecologist, he traded in his hip waders to work in a different kind of morass —the State Legislature in Albany— where he has directed campaigns to strengthen the clean water act, combat climate change, and protect NY from hydrofracking.
