The Emergency Situation in Franklin Forks

EMERGENCY WATER CRISIS in Franklin Forks PA!

WPX Energy has contaminated the drinking water of several homes.
Their water was fine before the gas company came and drilled/fracked
10 gas wells within a 2mi radius.

In March 2012, WPX installed water tanks for several families, and
paid to deliver water for 18 months.

Now the deliveries have stopped, and this billion-dollar energy company
wants the $800 tank back, depriving 2 families of ~a dozen people (including minor
children and disabled adults) of water.

In news reports, WPX claimed they offered to reconnect their water-well
back online, however by the PA DEP's own determination letter, these
wells are POISONED and Contaminated
with
Barium, Magnesium, Arsenic,
Aluminum, Iron, Manganese, Chloride, TDS, and explosive level of methane.

We are asking concerned citizens to bring clean, bottled drinking water,
and also (if desired) a dish to pass  for Breakfast, Lunch, or Dinner to the Manning
residence on Wed. Nov 6. ALL DAY VIGIL THIS WEDNESDAY!

Here is a timeline of events relating to Franklin Forks. (Unbelievable!)
Coordinators for this event on Wednesday:

The Situation in Dimock and other locations in Susquehanna/Bradford Co PA:

Winter is coming soon, and the water crisis in Dimock (and elsewhere) is far from over.
Here are some of the problems we need to solve:
  • Finding a climate controlled storage location in Montrose-area
for potable water donations and disbursements.
(potable=clean, sealed bottled water for drinking+cooking)

  • Finding a 501c3 fiscal sponsor

  • Finding a budget of $4,200/mo for direct program costs and
expansion/outreach to deliver non-potable water by truck to ~13
families in Susquehanna Co. and Bradford Co. PA. This budget
will also allow for adding a few additional families as they become
    known.

Some impacted families in Dimock-area have NEVER received
water deliveries, whose daily life is a struggle to find water:
the most basic thing needed for life.

NOTE WELL that Cabot and WPX pay $100/day per family to deliver
non-potable water only (this does not include drinking water). This means
for 11x families in Dimock and 3x families in Franklin Forks,
the gas industry pays $42,000 per month!

Now that Cabot and WPX have halted all water deliveries in the area,
Craig Stevens and Ray Kemble have been doing heroic work, purchasing
a truck and a tank, and making non-potable water deliveries to people,

But they are really struggling-- just to get reimbursed for their expenses,
and must often pay for truck fuel & truck repairs out of their own pockets,
then try to find donations or grants to back-fill expenses.

We estimate that for a budget of $4,200/mo. -- 1/10th of what the gas industry
was paying-- we can continue delivering water to the 13 families which we know
need water in Susquehanna Co. and Bradford Co. PA, but we do not have any
    sustaining donors at this time.

  • Developing a website to act as a clearing house for both water donations,
and also establishing families with a water need for NE PA.

Winter is coming soon, and unless we solve some of these problems quickly,
at least 13 families are at risk of going without BOTH potable water (for drinking
and cooking) and also non-potable water for washing and bathing.

Please come to Franklin Forks this Wednesday, Nov. 6 and bring water donations.

We are asking concerned citizens to bring clean, bottled drinking water, and also
(if desired) a dish to pass for Breakfast, Lunch, or Dinner to the Manning residence
on Wed. Nov 6. ALL DAY VIGIL THIS WEDNESDAY!  GPS: 41.919,-75.8472

Please help these families in need, share food and water and each other's company,
and let's brainstorm on how to solve the ongoing problem of making sure
families in Northeast PA get the water they need.

These people have been ABANDONED by the gas industry,
ABANDONED by the EPA, ABANDONED by the PA DEP,
and for the most part, ABANDONED by their own communities.

Please help if you can.
