More Illegal Dumping of Suspicious Fluids Caught! (photos)

Permalink: http://tinyurl.com/ElmiraFrackDump

Editor's note:
This was just sent to me by a friend from the Elmira NY area. Are these frack fluids? Who knows, but we do know that massive amounts are produced, and these must be either re-injected into the ground, stored in empoundment ponds, or dumped into creeks, streams, and rivers. A very small amount can be treated or recycled.

(*) It has been pointed out that "storm sewers" do not go to sewage treatment facilities. These rainwater drains go straight to the creek or the river, unfiltered.

Also, sewage
treatment facilities are not designed to remove heavy metals, solvents, salts, or other industrial chemical wastes found in these fluids.

UPDATE: Jan 3, 2011: To everyone who has asked "has this been reported" and "was there a sample taken?", I can now tell you, YES. I spoke to the people who took these photos today, and I have learned that this was reported to the EPA. I also got a call today from a special investigator from Region-2 who is actively looking into this. -- BH

Just thought you might be interested in something odd we saw today.

In the West end of the Riverfront Holiday Inn in Elmira parking lot a trucks labeled Badger Residual Waste was parked above a storm sewer drain in the lot and had a valve in the .5 open position and there was a huge ice formation on the drain and on the pavement where the truck tank contents appeared to have drained.

Wyoming Lic. # A3866
DOT # 871652
VIN # 9D773825

The ice formation was on the tires so you could clearly see that the ice had formed on the tires, drain, and pavement from the trucks tank being drained in the parking lot in the position the photograph was taken.

It seems that the truck is being drained as shocking as it might seem in the storm sewer drain(*).

You can see it for yourself right now in the Holiday Inn parking lot at the West end just on the side of Water St. in Elmira.

Here is another incident recorded by H.L., an astute and brave Citizen Journalist from Washington PA:

One reason we have to be suspcious of flowback and "produced" water dumping is that hydrofracking operations produce massive amounts of it, and so much is produced, it simply *must* be dumped!

If you examine the data, you will come to this inevitable conclusion:
There is WAY too much of it to store or clean. It must be dumped on to the land, into streams, and into rivers.

According to the calculation which I used in my video "Don't Frack Me, Bro!", there will be 100 Billion Gallons of Waste JUST FOR NEW YORK!

60,000 wells * 5M gal/per frack * 30% return to surface

These are industry numbers.

Hello bill, thanks for posting this. Has the dumping been reported?

a friend of mine raised a point: are we sure these are fracking fluids?

That's a really good point, Charles! No, I don't know that.
