Letter to my Congressman re his YES vote on KXL route

Dear U.S. Rep. Richard Hanna, (22nd NY district of NY)
I am shocked and disappointed that you
voted for HR3,  the Northern Route Approval Act for Keystone XL, which brings dirty, tar sands diluted bitumen THROUGH America, but is largely for export.

This is bottom of the barrel junk. It's not even real crude oil, it is synthetic dilbit made from low quality tar-sands asphalt. Dilbit presents real problems for transporting safely. High-viscosity dilbit pipelines are especially prone to impulse from cavitation and fluid hammer, which can weaken the pipe. Dilbit is also especially corrosive.

There have already been FIVE major spills in the last 2 years, with 4 on US soil.

Here is a map I researched and assembled:

The mining of this junk is incredibly toxic, and has destroyed an area of the BEAUTIFUL Boreal Forest of Alberta the size of England. The Boreal Forest is one of the modern Wonders of the World, and we are watching it being destroyed, a massive scar so big it can be seen from space.

I urge you to please rescind your future approval for any legislation supporting Tar Sands development. This is a rape unto the earth of a scale never before imaginable.

It may not even produce any net energy.

In which case it would be hard to imagine a more stupid thing which human beings have done in the last 6,000 years.

As you learn your people you will discover the people of your district are largely AGAINST KXL and also Fracking.

We would be happy to meet with you to express our concerns on energy policy and the environment.
Sincerely,
William Huston
Binghamton NY
