GASLAND / Donna Lupardo voted against the moratorium!

OMG, I thought I was informed about the Marcellus Shale issue.
Well, I was wrong.

It's much worse than I had thought.
  • The existing harms have already been grave,
both here and especially out West:

    • people and animals getting sick and dying,
    • water supplies being ruined,
    • the countryside blighted,
    • even the workers on the rigs are victims of exploitation

  • This gas drilling works by enclosure.
  • It is a transfer of the common wealth (the public commons)
to be harvested and exploited for private gains.

  • It is a loss of the sovereignty of local people.
  • It equals a loss of democracy.

  • The Precautionary Principle states that if the potential of harm is great,
then an action should not be done. This is being ignored by people lusting for profits.

I just saw GASLAND at the Montrose movie theater last night.
This is a fantastic film, very well researched and edited.
And the director Josh Fox was in attendence, and he is
doing much more than simply promoting his film. He is
becoming a leader in the anti-gas drilling movement.

YOU MUST SEE THIS FILM!
http://www.gaslandthemovie.com/

There are opportunities to see this movie THIS WEEK and next
all across the Twin Tiers. Check the link above for locations/times.

This film will be playing at
West Middle School in Binghamton

next Tuesday @ 6:30 pm.

Donna Lupardo, our rep for the 126th district of the
NY State Assembly (who is very progressive on many issues)
is saying this on facebook:

``I voted against the moratorium bill (A.10490-A) in committee because I don't think the state legislature should be micromanaging the DEC's work at this stage. We need to let them finish their job and complete the SGEIS in a timely manner. I want to see what the final recommendations are before making any judgments. How... we proceed from there will depend on what DEC does.``

Barbara Fiala, Broome County Executive is also pro-drilling.

So, my idea is to CALL EVERY LOCAL POLITICIAN YOU KNOW
pro-or-against, EMAILS -- PHONE CALLS -- FAXES -- IN PERSON
and get their committment to see GASLAND at one of these locations.
