FACT-CHECK GANNETT: Is 400 wells/county an "unlikely assumption"? How many Marcellus wells projected for NY?

According to authoritative sources such as
NY Times, Associated Press, the NYS DEC and an industry study,
NY can expect between 42,000 wells and 120,000 Marcellus wells.

Note: this range is for nominal, mean (average) or conservative values, so the actual number could be much more.

Divided by 28 counties, this is between 1,500 to 4,400 wells per county.
FACT CHECK:

So why would Jon Campbell / Gannett publish in an unsourced statement
that 400 wells / county would be an "unlikely assumption"?
