Response:

QUOTE: ``It's only just a ride.
And we can change it any time we want to.
It all comes down to a choice.
No work, no job, no effort, no money...

A choice,
right now,
between fear and love.

The eyes of fear
want you to put bigger locks on your doors,
BUY GUNS, close yourself off.

The eyes of love instead see all of us as one.

Here's what we can do to change the world, right now,
to a better ride.

Take all that money we spend on weapons and defenses each year
and instead spend it feeding and clothing and educating
the poor of the world,
which it would pay for many times over,
not one human being excluded,
and we could explore space,
together, both inner and outer,
forever, in peace.``

-- Bill Hicks

So, it all comes down to this:
Is it motivated by fear, or love?
If it's motivated by fear,
I have learned to be very, very cautious.

Because fear is often irrational.
Because fear is often unnecessary.
Because by the creation of fear,
people can be manipulated against their self-interests.
Because fear often leads to hatred and violence.

Fear => irrational, unnecessary, hatred, violence.

Fear and guns are not solving any problems.
Fear and guns are creating problems!

This is very, very clear.

Wanna try something different?

Try this:

Put down your fear and your guns for a moment,
and take 5 min.... Just 5 min.
Everyone can spare that.
And while sitting quietly:

  • cultivate a sense of gratitude
for the privilege of your birth,

  • try to cultivate loving-kindness
    towards all sentient beings,
    beginning with (and including!) yourself

  • cultivate an earnest desire
    that all beings be happy
    beginning with (and including!) yourself

  • cultivate a sense of contentment,

  • cultivate forgiveness for everyone who has hurt you

  • Likewise, cultivate repentance for all those whom you have hurt

  • Cultivate a sense of connectedness to all things

  • Calm your mind of thoughts, distinctions,
    evaluations, opinions, and theories
    ,

  • Calm your mind of projections, judgments, categories,

  • Calm your mind of both past and future, and other places
focusing on what really exists in the here-now,

  • Calm your mind of both craving and aversion,
    -- just for a moment,

  • Be consciously aware of your breathing,
which should be relaxed and deep.

And you will feel better,
and we all will feel better,
and the world will change
so that guns become unnecessary.

yes, gun sales are up here in Montrose, Pa., also; I asked the local gun store; lots of fear; but what else is new; this is our human tendency; we can choose Love or Fear ; it's all a learning experience, like anything else; more may learn to choose Love and connection; need to wait and see; Vera

Right on Bill! Many people don't understand that guns are not meant to protect you, they are meant only to hurt, and kill others. Remember the incident in Waco TX, they had lots of guns, but that did not protect them from the police and FBI who had much more. Remember Saddam Hussein he had lots of guns, but that didn't protect him or the Iraqi people because the invading US military, had way more. At best, all that stockpiling weapons can lead to is Mutually Assured Destruction (MAD)ness. So leave madness behind, because guns are not designed to protect you. Try love instead.
