FREE Citizen Journalism classes, Tue Aug 10-Wed Aug 11

Despite the change in venue of the EPA hearing, we are proceeding with the Citizen Journalism classes.

To quote a friend,
"WE WILL NEED AN ARMY OF CITIZEN JOURNALISTS to cover this event!"

If you want to be a part of the team to document this historic event,
WE WANT YOU!!!

So, I am pleased to announce 2 free classes in Citizen Journalism.

These classes will be held in Binghamton the 2 days prior to the EPA hearings,
so if you want to learn the basics of citizen journalism, READ FURTHER....
  • WHERE:
Unitarian Universalist Church, 183 Riverside Drive, Binghamton, NY 13905
    Room 10

  • WHEN:
    TUE/WED Aug 10-11, 6:30pm to 9:30PM

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR:

These classes will be taught by Heather Lee Schroeder, who has
taught journalism on a college level, and worked as a professional journalist
and editor for the Madison (WI) Capital Times.

Yes, this is the home paper of John Nichols, one of the most progressive
voices in the media today and in the media-reform movement.

Heather will be teaching how to perform Values-Based Journalism,
which is a form of advocacy journalism, but grounded in sound reporting.

These classes are FREE, but a donation of $5-$10
is suggested and would be gratefully received
to help cover her time/materials.

There will be 1 hour breakout sessions each day:
Day 1 I will teach an optional track for video production.
Day 2 I will teach an optional track for audio production
(radio, podcasting, audio-for-video).

by the US Appellate Courts for this region:

Citizen Journalists have a constitutionally protected right
to record matters of public interest and conduct of public officials
and reporting such is within the public interest.

Demarest v. Athol/Orange Cmty. TV, Inc.,
188 F. Supp. 2d 82 (D. Mass. 2002)

Glad you're arming citizen journalists. We're here to help as well with our new book, "Handbook for Citizen Journalists." We would love to send you a complimentary (pdf) copy and a link to some reviews of the book. It is the ONLY book written FOR citizen journalists and not just ABOUT them.
